YEAR 2017

The New Year signals a fresh beginning, new opportunities and a brand new focus. World experts in the art of numerology inform us that 2017 calculates into a Universal Number One Year.

“UNIVERSAL ‘1’ Year is a time to plant the seeds of intention for the forthcoming cycle – your deepest heartfelt desires, dreams and visions for every area of your life – relationships, health, finances, career, lifestyle, spirituality etc. The intentions & foundations you set in place during 2017 (preferably early in 2017), mould the field of potentiality and set the tone and flow of energy within your life over the forthcoming 9 years.”

While our society faces a perplexing set of moral divisions, social and political disruptions and persistent discourse of ‘the economy’, for many of us, the New Year promises hope and reassurance. People all around are sensing a change. Learning to find a balance during challenging times is not easy. However, it is indeed possible.  With practice, practice and more practice, we learn, we grow and we come to appreciate our essential needs. As we become less stressed and more inspired, we gain awareness and discover a new found sense of freedom. A new world opens up to us.

Anything worth doing requires practice.  Just as a musician whose talent for playing increases with dedicated repetition, we can heighten our abilities and skills with careful preparation and training. We may wish to practise choosing contentment over the need to be right.  We might practise generosity, openness and speaking up about things that matter to us. We may want to take a stand on the non-negotiables in our relationships. Tapping into our amazing inner wisdom, we acquire self-reliance and poise. Simply paying attention to messages from our body, mind and spirit, allows us to comprehend the deep awareness and personal intuition that lie within us.

We all feel happier if we focus on the positives. Identifying ways to improve particular behaviours also supports our ability to react less and respond more positively to other people. This in turn will lead to better outcomes.

Perhaps we might take a moment to tune into ourselves and create a short inventory of who we are and who we want to become in 2017. In order to become a superior self, what new goals will we commit to achieving this Universal Year?

Confidence plays a major part in success. All successful people plan their life on paper. So take some time, set your intentions and write down your goals.

Consider the following ideas. Do any of these resonate or would you prefer to create your own list? Will it be important to:

  • enhance your communication skills?
  • speak with real clarity, stating your needs openly and honestly?
  • learn to strengthen your relationship?
  • foster more intimacy?
  • cultivate more patience?
  • free up some personal ‘you time’?
  • share difficult discussions without feeling anxious or taking things personally?
  • end destructive communication patterns?

At times, with external help, it becomes easier to interrupt established or unhealthy patterns and behaviours.  Speaking to a professional therapist can help to reframe irritating habits and transform them into joyful lessons.

I delight in the philosophy of travel blogger, Kate Wheeler, who writes “True adventure starts with desire, an inclination to enter the unknown. In hope of finding what? More of yourself, or of the world? Yes. During an adventure you experience a peculiar mental state, thrilled, and open to surprise.”

As 2017 continues to throw us vast experiences, we can face our life with optimism and courage. With every step we will move a little closer to discovering our true gifts and finding our peaceful heart.

Yours in therapy,

Jill
